Douglas Louie has performed on stages around the world. His style is subtle and discerning and reminiscent of Bill Evans. He is a composer and muscian with more than 30 years of experience. Playing since age 5, Doug’s studies included the UBC School of Music where he studied Jazz piano. He is revered as a virtuoso performer of mainstream jazz, traditional classics, funk, gospel and blues.

As a favoured accompanist, his arrangements and charting have been described as masterful. He is typically compared to the finest musiciens and in many cases has player with or opened for players such as Stanley Turrentine, Peter Appleyard, Betty Loo Taylor, and McCoy Tyner.

Doug is an entertainer who has created a great body of work which is repsected and often borrowed. His own influences have been incredibly diverse and reflect his exposure to the creativity of musicians in Holland, Italy, Greece, Germany and Malaysia. His style is effortless and his ability to adapt seeminginly incompatible idioms in a unified confluence is extraordinary. Doug’s work keeps him in demand as a performer, musical director, and composer.

His workmates have included top musicians such as George Duke, Dennis Davies (Stevie Wonder alumnus), Dave Jacobs, and Betty Loo Taylor. Doug is regularly featrured as an act in the Du Maurier International Jazz Festival. He has writen music for dance, commericlal jingles, and is a foremost arrange and player of live music throughout the Northwest.

Doug has been a prolific writer and his work has been limited only by his boundless energy in helping others. He has performed at hundreds of benefits, is a beloved mentor to singers and other musicians, and regularly acts as Music Director for many established variety shows and fund raisers in Vancouver.
